Hello student, here in this video we are going to study the very important and interesting topic as, properties of metal and non metals, malleability and Ductility from CBSE class 10 science.

Elements are generally classified into metals and non-metals based on their properties.

Metals and Nonmetals are the elements present around us. So, it is important to know whether a particular element is a metal or nonmetal. Materials can be divided into metals and nonmetals.
The characteristic feature of metals like copper and aluminum is a high electrical and thermal conductivity, while nonmetals such as phosphorus and sulfur are insulators. Elements are distinguished as above based on their properties.

Non-metals occupy the upper right-hand portion of the periodic table.
Considering the properties of non-metals it is not shiny, malleable or ductile nor are they good conductors of electricity. These properties of non-metals provide one means by which we can distinguish metals from non-metals.

Physical properties of metals and non-metals :

Malleability: This is the property of a substance due to which it can be beaten into thin sheets. Metals are generally malleable whereas non-metals are not.

Ductility: This is the property of a substance by which it can be drawn into thin wires. Metals are generally ductile whereas non-metal are not.
