Use this round to practice alternative strikes and alternative strike combinations on the heavy bag from a standing position. Use any strike other than the conventional punches, kicks, knees, elbows, and headbutts normally used in freestyle striking. For example, practice hammerfists, palm strikes, ridgehands, chops, stomp kicks, jumping kicks, leopard strikes, pokes, or any other unconventional strike you’d like to focus on for the duration of the round. Be sure to pay attention to the amount of power you’re putting behind each strike to prevent injuring yourself, as many alternative strikes are meant to be used with less force than normal due to weaker bone alignment relative to conventional punches.
