BJP retains the number of seats, increased its lead in Radhanpur and Bayad: Gujarat BJP Chief

BJP retains the number of seats, increased its lead in Radhanpur and Bayad: Gujarat BJP Chief Gandhinagar: Jitu Vaghani, president of Gujarat unit of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today in his reaction to the results of 6-seat assembly by-polls in the State said BJP had retained the number of seats in today's result even after being in power in the State for so long. Vaghani said BJP also increased its lead in Radhanpur and Bayad assembly seats.

"Out of 6 assembly seats that went for by-election in Gujarat, BJP has won 3 seats. Even previously, BJP had won 3 of these 6 seats. While being in power for so long, we have been able to retain the number of victorious seats. BJP had lost Radhanpur and Bayad assembly seats even previously but this time it has increased its margin in both of these seats. BJP has lost Bayad seat by margin of merely less than 800 votes," Vaghani said.

In reply to a related question, Vaghai said, "we had achieved 100% result in 2014 and 2019. It is not necessary that every time we win 100% seats only. After all, the people are supreme. And we accept the verdict delivered by them. I congratulate all victorious candidates including those from Congress. We do analyze the result of each seat, whether we win or lose, I wish Congress also analyze the verdict of Radhanpur and Bayad for its reduced lead."

Vaghani accepted party's defeat in Tharad seat. Tharad was previously with Congress, however very unexpectedly, the seat has gone to Congress in today's results.
