Princess Diana Visits Pakistan in 1996 and 1997 During Royal Visit

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have followed Diana’s footsteps during their royal visit to Pakistan, with their five day trip marking the first royal visit to the country in 13 years.

Princess Diana made the same visit 22 years beforehand in 1997 and, like the royal couple, met Pakistan PM and friend Imran Khan.

This year’s visit has been branded the ‘most complex’ royal tour ever. The trip has been made complicated by security issues and political tensions.

The last senior members of the Royal Family to visit were Prince Charles and Camilla in 2006.
