It feels like 90% of the mainstream draft analysis has become finding a comp for an NFL Draft prospect. We see it every year.
Whether it was the way Duke quarterback Daniel Jones getting compared to his predecessor, Eli Manning or how all of the talking heads were insistent that tight end Evan Engram was destined to become the next iteration of Jimmy Graham circa 2012 – there is only one thing that remains consistent amongst the comparisons… They are almost always wrong.
Or at the very least, they are lazy. Rather than providing a ton of actual tape analysis or player testimonials or anything logical… These guys end up basically just trying to find an NFL player that went to the same school – or is about the same size.
Or one of their absolute FAVORITES… If both players also played basketball… FORGET about it.
This being said – even a broken clock is right twice a day, and some of these lazy comparisons end up being correct.
And as much as it pains me to say this to any Cleveland Browns fans out there… It is starting to look like Baker Mayfield is the second coming of Johnny Manziel after all.
