Forming the Present Simple tense in English
Hi, I'm Andrew. In today's video, I want to tell you about the present simple tense.
How do we form the present simple affirmative, subject + verb
I, you, we, they play, he, she, it plays
Present simple has special forms for the third person singular. To make that form we usually add one S at the end of that verb, like-likes, work-works.
When the verb ends in ss, x, ch, sh, or o we add es at the end of the verb, do-does, watch-watches, wash-washes
When the verb ends in a consonant plus y, we change y to I and we add es, study-studies, fly-flies.
How do we form the present simple negative, subject + do, does + not + verb.
Do and does not can be abbreviated to don't and doesn't
I, you, we, they don't want, he, she, it doesn't want
How do we form the present simple interrogative, do, does + subject + verb?
