Many people may have an idea of what monk's life is all about, but they don't understand the intricate details and why Buddhist monks do the things that they do. Keep in mind that one of the main reasons for us to even become monks in the first place is to train and develop ourselves. Training and developing ourselves meaning cultivating better habits through decipline and living by the 227 precepts and also purifying our minds. We do this through the act of meditation. Living as a Buddhist monk can be simple, but NOT easy. Cultivating oneself is NOT easy. But each day, we vow to stop doing bad, and do more good.

Here I wanted to interview two Buddhist monks at who are part of a temporary short term program called IDOP (International Dhammadayadas Ordination Program) in Thailand, part of Wat Phra Dhammakaya. This program gives Westerns an opportunity to ordain, and to learn and practice the teachings of the Buddha. People understand the concept of Buddhism, to they often miss the second part of Buddhism. That is the practice of Buddhism.

Here I discuss the monk's life with Luang pi Harry and Luang pi Supakit. At the time of the interview, they were in their last week of the pansa (3 months Rains Retreat). They shared insights into why they became a monk, why they want to stay as a monk, what they got out of monkhood, and why meditation is important to them. I wanted to give you a raw look into our lives. To me, Lp Harry and Lp Supakit represents the many kind and compassionate young men out there who have the intention to want to be a good and kind person. While they have lofty goals, they understand that developing themselves was the priority to the success of everything else. Please follow their monk journey and share any takeaways you got from their stories. I hope you enjoy!
