Session view tweaks the traditional DAW approach; instead of working on your song from left to right in time, you compose individual clips that you can trigger in any order or combination. This allows you to change your song arrangement on the fly, and try new combinations you wouldn't ordinarily try. Its like a songwriting hack sometimes, and I use it with every single song at the beginning of the songwriting process. Once my ideas are locked down and I have a basic structure, i'll record the ideas to the arrangement view, which is Ableton Live's traditional DAW timeline approach. Another awesome aspect of Ableton Live's session view is that its very applicable to live performances.
