IoT and its Use in Organizations

IoT and its Use in Organizations SOUND] So then does Sutton Trust have IoT devices and technology anywhere within the organization and if you do, can you talk about how those are implemented and the benefits you see from doing it.
An interesting thing about the Internet of Things is that it sometimes not even obvious you're implementing one of these devices. In the good old days, you actually would deploy a piece of technology purpose built. I'm going out to a store, I'm talking to a vendor and I'm deploying a piece of technology to do something. It's a different age when you're literally buying refrigerator for your break room or putting up a projector in a conference room. It maybe broadcasting a WiFi signal. So any company today even if it didn't intentionally want to deploy IoT network the fact is it's doing it now. It can't not be done. One of the things were doing is embracing the technology and controlling it to making sure we have certain standards apply to a device when it comes in or when one is discovered. And that way we can make it seamlessly part of our technology infrastructure. The biggest mistake somebody could make right now, is acting as though they really have a full choice over how technology is deployed in their environment. You have to be alert and realize that these new capabilities are coming into things that you would organically buy. You used to think it's just infrastructure. You have to think about how you think about technology and adjust your policies and standards to meet its capabilities and the risks opposes to organization.
But and I think that's a really interesting way to look at it, you hear a lot that Internet of Things is not something that anybody strategically wandered into but it evolved from smart devices being implemented and purchased. But, question as more, are there any IoT type devices that you strategically placed in your organization?
Not yet. One of the things we're doing is exploring, how those things might work. You think about the opportunities to help your consumers, yourr clients do things better. Imagine if they had an online service or something involving a refrigerator, purchasing music or a thermostat or bill pay, do you really have to go Internet initiate an online banking transaction to pay your bill on your thermostat or could you simply authorize the thermostat to actually just pay the bill for you?
Interesting, I thought you were going to go to people keeping money in their freezers, but also a good answer.
No, people do that too, unfortunately. [SOUND]
