Let's Save a WW2 Jeep #40: Bye to Hard Starts: Distributor Overhaul & Timing Willys MB G503|Shoptime Is your WW2 jeep hard to start? Lots of issues can cause hard starts, but getting your timing and distributor set and functioning correctly are critical elements for an easy starting and strong running G503.

In this episode, Patrick removes the distributor from the 1943 Willys MB and explains the operation of the critical mechanical advance. After 75+ years, the advance in many of these distributors is stuck from old, dried grease and a general lack of maintenance. If the distributor advance is stuck, you get two choices when setting the jeep's timing - hard starts or no power at speed. We choose option C: fix it and have an easy starting Willys MB! A quick disassembly, a little cleaning and the very stuck advance mechanism starts functioning like it should. The results? A strong running and easy starting motor.

We take a quick and successful cruise in the brisk 23 degree weather and call it a day.

Thanks for watching!
