Trade Discount VS Cash Discount:

The following are the main difference between trade discount and cash discount.

i) Meaning:
TRADE DISCOUNT:
A deduction or reduction is given by the seller to his buyer in list price of goods at time purchasing of goods is called trade discount.

CASH DISCOUNT:
The discount is allowed by the seller of goods to buyer at the time of receiving payment immediately is called cash discount.

ii) Purpose:

TRADE DISCOUNT:
The purpose of trade discount is to facilitate bulk sales.

CASH DISCOUNT:
The purpose of cash discount is to facilitate prompt payment.

iiii) When allowed:

TRADE DISCOUNT:
Trade discount is allowed by the seller to buyer at the time of purchases of goods.

CASH DISCOUNT:
Cash discount is allowed by the seller to buyer at time of payment.

iv) Entry in book of accounts:

TRADE DISCOUNT:
No entry will be made in book of accounts.

CASH DISCOUNT:
Entry will be made in book of accounts by both parties seller and buyer.
