Abbott @ CES: Smart Phones … Smart Bodies: Devices At The Forefront

Abbott @ CES: Smart Phones … Smart Bodies: Devices At The Forefront Lisa D. Earnhardt, Abbott’s Executive Vice President for Medical Devices, is on a mission.

Her goal: Find what generations before have searched for, only to come up empty.

A kind of healthcare Holy Grail, one where the path leads to the intersection where consumer technology and medical therapy cross paths to fundamentally change how the world lives.

“Some of the innovative technologies we have here at Abbott in terms of sensors, in terms of implantable devices which are continuously monitoring patients and really allowing us to take data and translate the information so we are ultimately driving clinical decision making. So it really is the Holy Grail in terms of where the future will be. And I truly believe we’re on the precipice of leading the charge in terms of making the smart body a reality,” Earnhardt said Tuesday on the floor of CES 2020 Digital Health Summit.

That technology spans across a multitude of chronic conditions that impact millions around the globe.

“At Abbott, we’re so blessed to be working in areas that are huge chronic conditions where technology has the potential to make a significant improvement in an individual’s life or potentially even extending life. So, in chronic pain, in cardiovascular disease, in diabetes, what we’re doing there is at the forefront of solving some major problems,” Earnhardt said.

She and the rest of us at Abbott won’t rest until we do.
