Contribution of lower wind prices to further implementation of wind farms｜Luis Goncalves, Iskraemeco

The prices of wind-generated energy have been dropping. Do you believe that this will contribute to further implementations of wind farms?

Wind energy. What does it mean for us? Wind energy is a resource that we have that is taken for granted since it is the air. However, the wind business at the moment is not as great as it was a couple of years ago. But we have to take into account that a few years ago it was subsidized by the government since it was a new source of energy that was coming to the market and the governments supported it so it would become a more profitable business. In my opinion wind energy is important since we need to move away from the energy structure that we used to have in the 70s, 80, and 90s. If we don't change the structure we will never manage to get into a greener energy. Costs are one issue, but there is also the contribution to global warming.


Are costs and global warming in balance? Most probably not, since the green energy policies that we have are definitely a major contributor to our future. It is important that costs are taken into consideration since something might not be profitable based on the business case that we have at the moment. Profitability always comes with a complete cost structure, which means what are we contributing to the energy sector, so with the wind energy, to the global approach. That comes with a cost. We need to build a business case that includes the contribution of the complete ecosystem and not just looking to a narrow part of the system. I think that as human beings with our social responsibility there is definitely a business case and we should focus on that and contribute to the improvement of our global energy efficiency.
