Coping Together is a 501(c)(3) non-for-profit community organization that has been serving the Chicagoland community since 2013. Staffed with highly qualified mental health professionals, Board Certified Behavioral Analysts, and Behavior Therapists. All of our therapists are licensed by the State of Illinois and certified with the Illinois Department of Human Services. We have extensive training in mental health and behavioral health with children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
We provide mental health counseling and ABA services to help individuals with disabilities address life’s challenges and achieve personal goals in order to experience a higher quality of life. We partner with agencies & group homes in the Chicagoland area to provide therapy/supports for all levels of emotional or physical development. We use a variety of therapeutic treatments which include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Art Therapy, and Solution Focused Treatments.
Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities are at an increased risk for developing mental health disorders and exhibiting behavior disorders. This can be due to biological and genetic factors, as well as environmental factors such as isolation and social disruption. Problem areas that should be addressed include communication, behavior modification, coping and problem solving skills, social skills and self-awareness.
As in traditional mental health therapy, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities develop a trusting relationship in a safe environment with a therapist who is trained to understand their needs. Consistent sessions and specific goals help clients deal with emotions and challenges of daily life.
ABA therapy creates individualized Behavior Management Plans based on clinical assessment, observation and interviews. Behavior plans consist of skill acquisition, replacement behaviors, data collection and reactive behavior protocols. Behavior programs are used to teach and develop skills that promote independence.
Individuals get the social and emotional support that they need to function throughout their life. They will learn coping and problem solving skills which will help them with communicating their wants and desires, along with being able to learn how to function as independently as possible.
We provide services through the Medicaid waiver and home based services and commercial insurance.
