In South Korea's parliament, the entire main opposition party has announced they're resigning... in protest against bills passed yesterday aimed at reforming the prosecution and the election system.
The Liberty Korea Party's floor leader, Shim Jae-cheol , made the announcement this morning at the National Assembly.
He said the LKP had failed to stop the controversial bills from being passed.
In resigning, he said, his party will work with other conservative blocs to win the general election in April.
Still, a mass resignation by the LKP appears likely to be more an expression of regret than a credible threat.
Of the Assembly's 295 seats, the LKP has 108 well short of a majority.
But for even one lawmaker to give up his or her seat requires approval from more than half of the Assembly's members.
