The eldest daughter of Michelle and Barack Obama was spotted in Islington, London, last week as she holidayed with her long-term boyfriend, Rory Farquharson. The couple, who met at Harvard University where they are both students, were seen enjoying a bit of quiet time together in the capital before returning to the US. Malia is believed to have spent Thanksgiving with her parents after Michelle posted a family portrait with her husband and daughters on Instagram. However, according to the Mail Online, the 21-year-old then split the Christmas period between her own family and that of her boyfriend’s. Malia spent part of Christmas in Woodbridge, Suffolk, where Rory’s parents live at a £1.6million six-bedroom home. Charles Farquharson is the chief executive of a London investment firm and attended Cambridge University. Having spent part of the Christmas holidays in Suffolk, the young couple have enjoyed spending some time with friends in London before they return to university. It is thought the pair have been staying at a three-storey house owned by Rory’s parents in Islington. One woman who spotted Malia and Rory told told MailOnline: “They were keeping a low profile but looked really happy and relaxed together. “They were dressed down – Malia was in wide-leg white pants with a black jacket and had her hair down with no make-up. Rory was in a khaki coat and loose jeans. “What surprised me was that they were rambling around Islington, a pretty busy area, entirely incognito – few people recognised her as being the daughter to the previous American president. “I spotted them walking near to the Regent's Canal. They were walking casually with another couple. “Malia was chatting about school with the other girl and Rory was chatting to the other guy.” This Christmas was not the first time the pair have been spotted in London. In August 2018 the couple were seen going to watch Alan Bennett’s play Allelujah! at The bridge Theatre near London Bridge. It is unknown when Malia and Rory first started dating but they were pictured together with Michelle and Barack Obama as long ago as November 2017. Malia’s younger sister, Sasha, is also understood to have left her parents for the latter half of the Christmas break. Both daughters joined their parents in Hawaii for Christmas before going their separate ways. Trending Michelle has previously spoken about her natural maternal reactions to watching her daughters grow up and leave home.
