The BEST Way to MOTIVATE Someone to Lose Weight and Exercise

The BEST Way to MOTIVATE Someone to Lose Weight and Exercise The hardest part with working out and losing weight is simply finding the motivation to get started. In this video we'll discuss how you can motivate someone to action and workout.

This video was taken from my LIVE Q & A that I host every Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm Eastern Time on the Total Fitness Bodybuilding YouTube Channel.

The question was:
"How To Support Someone Who Wants To Workout But Never Takes The Initiative?"

This is a tricky situation because the desire to change has to come from within. You can't force motivation on someone to workout or make a change if they are not self motivated.

But there are some things that you can do to help encourage people to take action. One of the best ways to motivate someone is to lead by example. People don't listen to what you say, they see what you do. This is especially true with children and young people - but it also applies for adults as well.

If you want to inspire someone to workout, lose weight, and get in shape - you have to do that for yourself. If you make your personal fitness a priority and get great results, then the people that are close to you will see the changes and this may help to inspire some of them to want to change for themselves.

Unfortunately, most people are not motivated by pleasure or the desire to improve. The average person would like to lose weight, feel better, look better, etc... As long as they don't have to do any work to get the results. It's usually only after hitting rock bottom and starting to suffer from the negative side effects before they truly get motivated to want to make a change.

A great strategy that can help speed up this process to getting motivated is to visualize where your current actions (or lack there of) are taking you. If you can zoom out and look 10+ years in the future and see where your life it headed, it may help you realize that you need to make a change.

For example, if someone is 50 pounds overweight, doesn't exercise, eats like crap, and doesn't take care of their health - imagine what will happen if they continue down that path?

Chances are they will be on their way to developing high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high blood sugar, and increase their risk of getting type 2 diabetes, having a heart attack, stroke, etc.

If you know of people in your personal life - friends, family members, relatives, etc. - who have experienced such health problems look at the devastation that it has caused for them and their family's.

I've seen a lot of men over the age of 40 go from being the man of the house, the bread winner, the provider for their family - to getting sick, unable to work, unable to take care of themselves, become bed ridden, and a burden on their family.

If you can't get motivated to take care of yourself, imagine how much pain you're going to cause to others when you are unable to take care of yourself and now you have to rely on others to do your basic everyday tasks like washing you, feeding you, helping you go to the bathroom, etc. Imagine how much of a burden you could potentially become if you don't change your ways?

Sometimes we need to focus on the pain of not changing, instead of focusing on the pleasure of changing, to get someone to take action to improve their health and fitness.

To read about a real world example of this, check out the weight loss success story from one of my personal coaching students - Paul - at:

It got to the point where Paul no longer cared about how fat and unhealthy he had become. As the years progressed Paul’s weight climbed to over 240 pounds. He was a ticking time bomb and it almost cost him his life!

But Paul was able to turn his life around after a near death experience at age 62. Hopefully his story will help inspire someone in a similar situation to make a change before it's too late.
