If a strong self-belief is coupled with equally strong humility, greatness is guaranteed.
Ghalib exponent Dr Ajai R. Singh decodes and explains 2 Ghalib 'shers' which exemplify both these positive personalty factors .
The 1st 'sher' illustrates his strong self-belief -
Haiñ aur bhī duniyā meñ suḳhan-var bahut achchhe
Kahte haiñ ki 'ġhālib' kā hai andāz-e-bayāñ aur
An the 2nd 'sher' his equally strong humility -
Reḳhte ke tumhīñ ustād nahīñ ho 'Ghālib'
Kahte haiñ agle zamāne meñ koī 'Meer' bhī thā
While the 2nd 'sher' shows how one genius recognises another, the 1st one illustrates how one must recognise the genius within oneself as well.
