Rolex Yacht-Master, Vacheron Overseas & Modern Classics: Luxury Watches We Love to Hate; Watch Buys

Rolex Yacht-Master, Vacheron Overseas & Modern Classics: Luxury Watches We Love to Hate; Watch Buys Luxury watches are live on YouTube with host Tim Mosso! Tonight’s show focuses on watches we love to hate, a casting call for watch collectors who like to talk watches, and modern era luxury watch classics from Rolex, Omega watches Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Bulgari. All of this and watch collector wrist shots will feature tonight on Watches Live!

The Rolex Yacht-Master is a modern classic; in fact, this experimental model family is one of several post-Quartz-Crisis stalwarts that can be considered the most enduring sports watch models of their era. While the Patek Philippe Nautilus, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, Rolex Submariner, and Omega Speedmaster Professional are all-time greats, they’re also well established from a time before quartz watches and digital devices challenged the hegemony of mechanical watches.

However, the Yacht-Master has company in the ranks of modern mechanical watches that are becoming permanent features of the luxury watch landscape. The 1993 Omega Seamaster Diver 300M, the 1996 Vacheron Constantin Overseas, the 1997 Patek Philippe Aquanaut, the 2000 Bulgari Octo are modern era watches whose basic designs and model lines have endured for 20 years or more. Today, Tim discusses the reasons that these watches deserve to be considered tomorrow’s classic and collectible watches.

Watch collectors are a snarky lot. Frankly, there are watches we love to hate, and that needs to change. Today, Tim leads a review of the Hublot Big Bang, the Audemars Piguet Code 11.59, the Chopard Alpine Eagle, the Rolex Sea-Dweller 126603, and the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711. In each case, the watch in question succeeds on its own merits; can watch buyers find the heart to co-exist with these lightning rod models?

Finally, tonight’s show features our first casting call for watch collectors and watch enthusiasts who want to meet Tim, talk watches, and film collector conversations to showcase their passion. We’re starting local; the idea is to invite collectors from New York down to Washington, D.C. in order to talk about their collections, past milestones, philosophy of collecting, and future grail watch goals. In time, we hope to expand globally and facilitate travel for collectors who wish to share with our global audience of watch enthusiasts.

Rolex price markups are a fact on used watch markets; Rolex waitlists – mostly for the GMT, Daytona, and Submariner – are a fact at Rolex dealers. It’s time to take the wind out of splenetic sails and stop talking about this topic altogether. Watch collectors who are exhausted by constant talk of “Rolex shortages” need to start collecting and recommending others collect brands like Blancpain, Omega, Bulgari, and – given pricing for used Daytonas and Pepsi GMTs – even brands such as Vacheron Lange. There’s more to life than roughly three steel Rolex sports watches, and we only feed the beast when we refuse to change the subject.

And no one can change the subject like a politician. Tonight, Tim reviews the likely wristwatch choices of American presidential candidates on the right and left. Watches suited to Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, Joe Biden, and Michael Bloomberg offer the potential to offend virtually everyone!

Finally, our main feature involves sports watches that are suitable for use as dress watches. With many watch buyers no longer interested in the dress watch genre and many collectors focused on steel sports models, Tim reviews several watches that can be worn handsomely with a suit, tie, and Ferragamos. Our roll call of refined sports watches includes the Rolex Submariner, the Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo 100-meter, the two-tone Patek Philippe Nautilus 3700/1AJ and 3700/11AJ, and the Breguet Type XX Aeronavale

Tonight, our show will feature all of the above plus live chat and wrist shots from our global audience of watch buyers, watch collectors, and watch enthusiasts!
