James started his dance journey as a fan behind the TV and computer screens. Inspired by dancers and performers such as Ellen Kim, Lyle Beniga, Shaun Evaristo, Tae Yang, and Kaba Modern, he sought out ways to learn more about the craft. In 2013, he joined the Philippine United Student Organization’s (PUSO) urban dance branch, PUSO Modern, under the direction of Brian Ryu and Nikki Nalundasan, then Andrew Solis and Sarah Esmenda. He would eventually help lead the team as Modern Head and then Co-Director until 2017. He’s had the privilege of dancing and creating choreography for showcases and competitions throughout the East Coast circuit, learning from educators of different communities, and even performing with K-Pop idol group BTS for the New York and New Jersey stops of their World Tour.
Currently, James serves as the Founder and Lead Coordinator of Sandbox NYC, understudies roles for Beyond Babel in New York, and is signed to MSA Agency based in Manhattan. His goal is to create spaces where dancers, spectators, and people alike can share and build one another freely. His vision is to assist others in finding their personal greatness through determination, dedication, and love for dance.
