According to sources, after 2:30 hours of questioning, P Chidambaram is being non-cooperative and his replies are evasive. Officials say it could be one of the grounds on which custody will be sought. Chidambaram maintains that last year when he joined the probe, he was called as a witness. Chidambaram has denied putting any pressure on FIPB officials. He also said that he didn't interfere in his son Karti's business.
Further, Chidambaram refused to recall any meeting with Indrani and Peter Mukherjea in March/April.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested former finance minister P Chidambaram after many efforts which had the CBI officers scaling walls to enter Chidambaram's home. Chidambaram was arrested in the INX Media case, in which he has been accused of wrongdoing, money laundering and misusing the post of finance minister. The man who once held the portfolios of home and finance ministries spent the night at the CBI lockup after he evaded arrest for 24 hours. Since Tuesday night, the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate had been attempting to arrest P Chidambaram even as his lawyers claimed that he was at their office. P Chidambaram was finally arrested from his residence on Wednesday night after his counsels failed to get an urgent hearing in the SC seeking a stay of Delhi High Court order.
