How a family law or domestic violence case can quickly get out of control

How a family law or domestic violence case can quickly get out of control #familylaw #divorce #domesticviolence

As if going through a divorce, family law case, or domestic violence cases was not hard enough, these cases have a real potential to get out of control quickly.

Often, one case will initiate a completely separate case or more. I see this in a lot of my cases. The typical exapmple is when someone is arrested for a domestic violence crime, then a domestic violence injunction cases is filed, then a dissolution of marriage (divorce) or a paternity case is filed. Now if that is not bad enough, throw in a case from child protective services and you life can become miserabel really fast.

It can be difficult to keep the cases straight and separate but they have overlapping issues. What is done in one case can affect the other cases.

One common, potentially major mistake I see a lot of people make is to testify in a domestic violence injuncton case when there is a criminal domestic violence case pending. What can happen in this instance, is the state prosecutor will order the hearing transcript and see if there are any statemens you made that can be used to prosecute you.

Represneting yourself in cases like this can end really badly. I would always recommend hiring a lawyer to represent you in such matters. I understand that lawyers are relaly expensive but that expense will be greatly increased should you make a blunder in one of these cases.
