A leap forward in railway electrification - Inventors of the Year 2019

A leap forward in railway electrification - Inventors of the Year 2019 The transportation transition is already in full swing in the European rail network, and more and more lines are being electrified. Often, however, bridges are too low and tunnels too small for conventional contact lines. Axel Schmieder, Wolfgang Braun, and Martin Altmann of Siemens Mobility GmbH, along with Thomas Koch of Gas and Power, have invented a new arrester system solution that protects against lightning flashover despite the smaller clearances. The team was honored with the Inventor of the Year award in the “Outstanding Invention” category.
