Large Gynecomastia Surgery (Skin Removal NOT Needed For This Patient)

Large Gynecomastia Surgery (Skin Removal NOT Needed For This Patient) After three consultations with other surgeons, one of which advised skin removal with gynecomastia removal surgery, the patient found experienced Austin gynecomastia expert Dr. Caridi. Watch as Dr. C explains why gyno surgery and skin removal do not go hand in hand and how to avoid unsightly scars.

In this case, our wonderful patient presents with large Zone 1 gynecomastia. Zone 1 gynecomastia is concentrated in the anterior chest area and is usually shaped like a horizontal ellipse. Zone 1 is the most common area with gyno tissue in those with gynecomastia and is what creates the female-breast-like appearance in a male. It obscures or rounds off the lower pectoral muscle area that is normally flat and linear.

This patient researched and consulted with multiple surgeons who previously told him that because of the large amount of breast tissue he had, skin removal was the only option in removing his gynecomastia. This is simply not true and will often lead to large and very noticeable scars across the chest that could have been avoided. This patient does not need skin removal to treat his gynecomastia. It is obvious in this case that classic treatment using the Vaser with liposuction and excision of chest tissue will allow the skin to retract back nicely without leaving unsightly scars from gynecomastia across the chest. Skin removal (in most cases), is usually unnecessary, because skin retracts impressively well after the removal of excessive tissue, even in men who have saggy skin. If loose skin does persist, often after extreme weight loss, it is always possible and even advisable to contour the excess skin as a secondary procedure. It is always a big deal when a patient comes in thinking he must have his skin cut out, and I get to tell him that HE DOES NOT.

Dr. Caridi explains how the Vaser uses sound waves, not lasers, to “melt” the fibro-fatty tissue in the chest. Any gland or tissue remaining after Vaser liposuction is removed using precise surgical excision techniques.

Dr. Caridi also discusses causes of gynecomastia. The first, most common cause, is called natural or “idiopathic” gynecomastia. It’s caused by a temporary imbalance of the sex hormones during this stage of pubertal development in young boys. The next most common cause of gynecomastia is the group of young men who have taken hormones or pro-hormones for body building reasons. This causes a disturbance of the hormones which can lead to the development of glandular gynecomastia tissue. Lastly, uncommon medical issues and medications make up the smallest category of gynecomastia patients.

Common myths in the treatment of gynecomastia:
Concerning diet and exercise, you should always eat healthy and diet regularly as an important part of your health. If you eat well-balanced meals and exercise regularly and it goes away, you don’t need surgical treatment. If you diet and exercise and you still have gynecomastia, it isn’t going away without surgical treatment.
Concerning motions, lotions, and potions of the internet, any advertisement or person that says rub this on, wear this, or take this to get rid of your gynecomastia is just wrong. Plainly and simply, there is no proven and effective gyno treatment other than surgical removal.
