PM: Police is working for the people Protests both in favour and against Citizenship Amendment Bill are raging across the country. One aspect that has been the centre of attention is the role of police. Some sections of media is painting the police as an out and out adversorial force which is using excessive force to attack its own people. Unverified videos being circulated online on alleged police violence. Police has clarified some of them as fake news. What is not being highlighted adequately is that police is also trying its best to calm protestors where possible, and prevent violence and destruction of public property. They are as vulnerable to violence as anyone else. At many a places, the protestors seen are chasing the police, beating them and attacking them with stones.
Earlier , addressing a public function at Ramleela Maidan in Delhi, Prime Minister appealed to people to spare a thought for the police. He said in the name of protests, police is being attacked. He said people should not percieve the police as enemy. Police does not have any politcal affliation but work towards maintaining law & order. Around 33,000 policemen have been martyred in the line of duty since independence.
Speaking at a function in Lucknow Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit out at the violence that played out in Uttar Pradesh in the name of protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. He appealed to everyone not to allow false rumours to incite violence.
